Pakistani engineers set to take their share in international market

ISLAMABAD – Engineers of all disciplines will take the share in the world market as Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) can now award the title of ‘International Professional Engineer’ to its professionals.

Washington Accord, the International Professional Engineers Agreement (IPEA) has approved the authority of PEC to award the said title to its engineers from today onwards.

It is pertinent to note that only Engineers of Pakistan have attained this status in the world market.

The Pakistani Engineers after becoming “International Professional Engineer” will be:

1) Equivalent to any other professional engineer in the World market.

2) The Jobs of Professional Engineers of the whole world will now open for Pakistani Engineers.

3) Pakistani companies working abroad will take Pakistani Engineers instead of hiring foreigners.

4) PEC is going to make it mandatory for all foreign and Pakistani companies to acquire 70% Pakistani “International Professional Engineers“ on all “CPEC” and other projects.

The chairman of PEC, Engr Jawed Salim Qureshi expressed,”It was the most difficult target which I gave to myself and my team. Alhamdulillah dream come true because of your prayers. Be united to achieve other bigger targets for Engineers”.

Originally signed in 1989, the Washington Accord is a multilateral agreement between bodies responsible for accreditation or recognition of tertiary-level engineering qualifications within their jurisdictions who have chosen to work collectively to assist the mobility of professional engineers.
