PPP candidate for NA-124 Chaudhry Zaheer joins PTI

LAHORE – A candidate of Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) on Tuesday announced joining the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) just days ahead of general polls in the country.

Chaudhry Zaheer, who is running for Lahore’s NA-124 constituency, underlined that the PPP has deviated from its manifesto. “PTI under the leadership of Imran Khan is fighting to end corruption from the country,” the ex-PPP leader said at a joint press conference with PTI’s Shafqat Mehmood and Chaudhry Sarwar.

PTI has fielded Muhammad Nouman Qaiser as its candidate for the constituency, which is considered a stronghold of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). It is the home constituency of Hamza Shehbaz Sharif, the son of former Punjab chief minister.

Zaheer also announced his full support to PTI candidates in the constituency.

On the occasion, Senator Ch Sarwar said his party does not have the support of any institution, including ‘khalai makhlooq’, in an unveiled reference to Pakistan Army. “PTI will come into power with the public vote and PTI chief Imran Khan will be the next prime minister of Pakistan,” he hoped.

Chaudhry Zaheer had last year quit Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) to join PPP in a meeting with former president Asif Ali Zardari at Bilawal House, Lahore.

Pakistan is set to hold general polls on July 25th (Wednesday).
