ISLAMABAD – A new spell of rain, expected to start from Tuesday, may lash the north-western parts of Pakistan, posing a challenge to the general elections scheduled a day ahead.

According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the spell would last till Sunday and cities that are likely to experience considerable rainfall any time during the s said period include Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Malakand, Hazara, Mardan, Peshawar, and Kohat, as well as Kashmir.

Moreover, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Bahawalpur in Punjab, Zhob and Kalat in Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) are also predicted to experience strong winds, with thunderous rainfall and lightning.

Usually, the turnout in the elections is low which is expected to tumble further if the weather interrupts routine life on the day.

Meanwhile, the political parties ended their election campaign on Monday in a last-ditch effort to bag the support of voters trading barbs and chanting catchy slogans.

The polling time for the practice is from 8 am till 6 pm – for 10 hours without any formal interval.
