Nawaz, Maryam decide not to file request for parole extension

LAHORE – Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter and son-in-law will be shifted to Adiala Jail from Jati Umran today as they have decided not to request for an extension in their parole, local media reported.

The decision was taken by the former premier on the suggestion made by Maryam Nawaz during a family meeting.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif wanted to submit a request seeking extension in the parole but the elder brother refused it saying, “I had earlier availed parole on your request but will not avail it again”.

Meanwhile, the preparations to shift Nawaz, Maryam and Captain (retd) Safdar to the jail have been completed. They will be brought to Rawalpindi on an airplane.

Nawaz, Maryam and Captain Safdar, who have been serving their terms in Adiala jail since their conviction in the Avenfield reference, were released on parole to attend the funeral prayers of the former first lady Begum Kulsoom Nawaz.

He added that the former premier had, earlier, not sought parole even after the death of his wife. The former speaker hoped that the government will extend the period on humanitarian grounds.
