The incident happened as a Cessna 310 crashed about a half-mile northeast of the Riverside municipal airport, according to Ian Gregor, a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman.

Riverside Fire Chief Michael Moore said the plane, which had five people on board, broke apart when it hit two homes, which reportedly had residents. The ill-fated plane was en route to San Jose.

“We’re unable to determine if they were victims from the residence or from the aircraft itself,” Moore said.

“Two adults and three teenagers were aboard the plane. The plane’s occupants are a family,” he added.

Moore says one of the teenagers, a girl, was thrown from the plane on impact and had only minor injuries. She was able to talk to firefighters about what had happened as she was taken to a hospital.
