13 PIA employees arrested on charges of heroin smuggling

LAHORE – Authorities have arrested at least 13 employees of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) in connection with a failed drug smuggling bid, in which 6 kg of heroin worth over 60 million was caught on-board a Dubai-bound flight parked in Lahore.

The flight was due to leave for Dubai on Saturday from the Allama Iqbal International Airport when the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) received information that a huge quantity of heroin was being smuggled on-baord.

ANF personnel searched the plane and recovered 6 kg of heroin from its toilet.

“Some PIA employees have been taken into custody in connection with the heroin smuggling to Dubai. If found guilty, strict action will be taken against them,” PIA spokesman Daniyal Gilani said. “Around a dozen employees of PIA have been detained and are being interrogated in connection with heroin seizure,” he added.
