Junaid Jamshed’s attackers arrived in Rawalpindi for Mumtaz Qadri chehlum

RAWALPINDI (Staff Report) – Those who had attacked singer-turned-preacher Junaid Jamshed at Benazir Bhutto International Airport last week belong to Karachi and had travelled to Rawalpindi to participate in Mumtaz Qadri’s chehlum, police said.

The three men have been identified as Shah Faisal, Irfan and Akhtar, after pointed out by Junaid Jamshed, who is a fashion designer and runs a garments business.

Police have determined the home addresses of attackers, after requesting PIA for a list of passengers on the plane.

Also, the Nadra has been asked to verify the data on the suspects and the police have obtained CCTV footage from the airport to help them secure their arrests.

 

Jamshed had exited the arrival lounge on Saturday when a group of people started shouting at him and accused him of being blasphemous.

He was hit and pushed by the group and he had to run back into the passenger lounge.

The former pop singer was then taken into the deputy terminal manager’s office till the police arrived and was escorted home by the police.
