LAHORE (Staff Report) – A petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Pakistan.
The petitioner, named Muneer Ahmad, has contended that PM Modi, along with a 120-member delegation, visited Pakistan without any official permission.
Information about his visit was received through social media and no legal procedures were adopted, the petitioner has contended.
The federal government, the Civil Aviation and Airport Security Force (ASF) have been made party to the petition.
On December 25, the Indian premier paid a surprise visit to Pakistan and met Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at his residence in Jati Umra.
The two prime ministers held a one-and-a-half hour meeting in Lahore, where the wedding of PM Sharif’s granddaughter was taking place.
Where Modi’s visit appeared to be a goodwill gesture in revitalising the tense relations between the two countries, many are criticising its ‘surprise and private’ nature.
