KARACHI – The Election Commission of Pakistan has served notice on Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for violating the code of conduct during his recent Lyari visit.
According to the show-cause notice issued by deputy commissioner south, PPP chairman had not informed district or police administration ahead of his rally in Lyari, in violation of the ECP’s code of conduct which bounds the candidates to inform concerned authorities regarding their rallies three days in advance.
‘Action would be taken as per law upon failure to submit a reply by the given date,’ the notice warns, asking the first-time contestant to clarify his position by Thursday.
On Sunday, Bilawal led a motorcade to his stronghold Lyari, however, he faced a hard time when the public pelted the convoy with stones.

The residents of Bihar Colony stopped Bilawal’s rally from travelling to Lyari and chanted slogans against him. Some disenchanted protesters also resorted to vandalism and broke the windows of a car, which was a part of PPP chief’s caravan.
Bilawal was forced to change the route of his electoral rally. Laterwards, a first information report (FIR) was filed Sunday night against 400-450 unidentified persons, including 13 locals.
Meanwhile, PPP has blamed the caretaker regime for not providing enough security to the PPP chairman.
A senior party leader, Maula Bux Chandio reprimanded the caretaker government for its failure to make sufficient security arrangements during the election campaign in an area as sensitive as Lyari. He further added that the mob that pelted the convoy with stones comprised of anti-PPP and anti-democracy elements.
