SHENZHEN — Huawei, which overtook Apple as the world’s second-largest smartphone has recently caught using iPhone for a New Year tweet from the company account.
The smartphone manufacturer greeted its followers with “Happy 2019” on its official Huawei Technologies’ Twitter account on December 31 and had a “Twitter for iPhone” stamp visible in the bottom right-hand corner of the tweet.
The tweet was quickly removed but screenshots of the blunder spread across social media.

According to Bloomberg, the Shenzhen-based tech firm blamed the mistake on their overseas social media agency and decided to punish two employees from the marketing department.
The punishment included a CNY5,000 ($700) fine, a single-level demotion and blocking any eventual promotions for the next 12 months.

The company blame the mistake to “VPN problems” as Twitter including many social media services is blocked in China and company’s employee used an iPhone with a roaming SIM card in order to send the message on time at midnight.
The incident comes just a few days after Huawei announced it shipped a record 200 million smartphones in 2018.

The Chinese company also surpassed Apple in smartphone shipments for a consecutive two quarters starting from April last year, vaulting it to the number 2 spot globally behind South Korean technology giant Samsung Electronics.
