LAHORE – Former chief minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif said on Tuesday that he was not responsible for the situation arisen due to heavy rain in the metropolis as his government’s tenure had ended a month ago.
Expressing his views after the torrential downpour lashed Lahore, the former chief executive of the province said that arrangements should have been made by the caretaker government before the start of the monsoon season to tackle such situation.
During his visit to the National Assembly constituency NA-132 after the rain Shehbaz asked where the district administration was and why its officials did not keep the drainage machinery ready.
“It’s criminal negligence on their part,” he added.

Caretaker transport minister for Punjab has revealed that an inquiry committee has been set up to probe the appearance of a large sinkhole on Lahore’s thoroughfare, following a torrential downpour.
The committee will dig into the details regarding the emergence of a 20ft deep and 200ft wide ditch on the Mall Road in front of the General Post Office; another trench measuring 50ft appeared at some distance from the first.
Lahore recorded 214 millimeters (8.4 inches) of rain in the 24 hours up to 8 am on Tuesday, the country’s chief meteorologist Muhammad Riaz said and warned that a monsoon system would bring continued heavy rains for the next 24 to 48 hours as well.
