JUI-S pins blame on India, Afghanistan for assassination of Samiul Haq

ISLAMABAD – Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Sami (JUI-S) has blamed foreign elements, especially India and Afghanistan for the killing of its leader, Maulana Samiul Haq.

A statement issued by the party, currently headed by slain leader’s son Hamidul Haq, implies that the murder had an international dimension and was not the result of any sectarian rift.

“It is confirmed to thousands of his followers, the party, Darul Uloom Haqqania and his family that martyrdom of Maulana was not an internal issue rather Indians, Afghans and other elements are involved in this act,” said a statement issued by JUI-S here on Sunday.

The part stated that some elements were trying to hide their incompetence by issuing different statements about the matter, terming it result of a domestic dispute or sectarian issue.

The party appealed to security agencies to nab the actual killers of Maulana and award them exemplary punishment.

The statement said that a delegation of Afghan government had requested Maulana Samiul Haq to mediate with Taliban, in October adding that a propaganda was launched when the efforts failed.

Entire Muslim Umma was showing grief over his tragic death but Afghan media were trying to tarnish his image, the party said.

The 81-year-old was stabbed to death at a private housing society in Rawalpindi on Friday by unknown assailants.

Maulana was alone at his home when the incident happened; he was taken to the hospital but succumbed to his wounds before being administered medical aid.

He was laid to rest in Akora Khattak on Saturday with thousands of people including top political leaders paying homage to the cleric.

National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaisar, Federal Minister for Defence Pervez Khattak, Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, QWP chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, Irfan Sadique, retired General Ihsanullah, Senator Hafiz Hamdullah, Maulana Ahmad Ludyanwi, Sikandir Sherpao, Ilyas Bilour, Arab Alamgir Khan and others arrived at his seminary on Sunday for condolences.

Asad Qaisar assured that government would leave no stone unturned to arrest the killers. He said that they had developed a close liaison with Punjab government and other investigative agencies to arrest the culprits.
