CHAMAN – The Pak-Afghan friendship gate at Chaman border remained closed for the second consecutive day on Saturday, after unprovoked firing by Afghan forces on census teams that killed at least 12 and injuring several others.
Meanwhile, 19 trucks loaded with eatery items funded by Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reached the site to aid those affected by the attack.
However, the Pak-Afghan border will remain open at Torkham in Khyber Agency on Saturday. Trade and other activities will be carried out as per routine.
On Friday, the Torkham border was also closed for an indefinite period after an attack by the Afghan forces.
Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Nafees Zakaria had also showed concerns over the firing by Afghan forces at Chaman border, which martyred many civilians.
In his weekly briefing, Zakaria said the FO has serious concerns over the incident. The census team was performing its duty when the firing started, he said.
