ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday laid a foundation stone of Islamabad Metro bus link to New Islamabad Airport at the site of the airport near Fateh Jang.
Talking to media, he said that quality will be maintained at any cost in the projects that will benefit those citizens who do not have their own vehicles.
Referring to the metro bus project, the prime minister said earlier it was not part of the new Islamabad airport project. It has been included with a view to facilitate the access of commuters to and from the airport. He said the metro bus project will be completed with the new airport simultaneously.
The PM also directed the officials to complete the development projects at high pace, adding that infrastructure was a must for the development of the country.
Even after lapse of decades, the Neelum-Jehlum project was still uncompleted, and the Prime Minister added that the government injected the necessary resources to revive and complete such projects.
According to Radio Pakistan, the project will cost Rs 18 billion, and it includes construction of four interchanges and fourteen stopovers.
The Metro Bus link will connect new Islamabad Airport to Peshawar Morr.
The link will be completed by National Highway Authority in 4 Phases with a total length of 25.6 Km, 09 Bus stations, 12 bridges and 11 underpasses.
Ninety five percent work on Terminal Building has been completed with a capacity of 4,500 passengers at a time. State of the art fifteen aircraft docking stations are complete and an international standard air traffic control system is being installed.
