ABU DHABI — Embassy of Pakistan in Abu Dhabi hosted a reception aboard the Pakistan Navy Ship (PNS) Shamsheer at the Cruise Terminal, Mina Zayed Port, in celebration of Pakistan’s Defense Day to honor troops who fought in 1965 war.

During the event, Ambassador Faisal Niaz Tirmizi and Commodore Shahid Wasif SI (M), the Mission Commander of the Pakistan Navy, welcomed General Salem Saeed Al Jabri, the UAE’s Assistant Foreign Minister for Military and Security Affairs, and Brig. Abdullah Al Mohairbi, Deputy Commander of the UAE Navy. The reception was attended by diplomats and UAE government officials.

The event also marked the commencement of the “Nasl Al Bahr” exercise between Pakistan and the UAE. The Pakistan Navy flotilla, including the Shamsheer and Haibat, arrived at Port Zayed earlier in the week for this bilateral exercise aimed at enhancing cooperation, interoperability, and capacity building between the two navies.

Commodore Shahid Wasif noted that the exercise highlights the commitment to strengthening naval collaboration. Ambassador Tirmizi underscored the longstanding partnership between the Pakistani and UAE armed forces, noting that their historical ties have developed into a robust collaboration, exemplified by the UAE Navy hosting the fifth edition of the Nasl Al Bahr exercise.

UAE ranks as Pakistan’s third-largest trading partner after China and the United States and is home to over a million Pakistani expatriates. Additionally, it is the second-largest source of remittances to Pakistan, following Saudi Arabia.
