Court rejects plea for delay in execution of Saulat Mirza

KARACHI (Web Desk) – The Sindh High Court on Friday rejected a plea seeking delay in execution of the death row convict Saulat Mirza.

The plea was filed by Saulat Mirza’s wife requesting the court postpone execution until a fresh probe was carried out.

A two-jude bench observed the plea was not maintainable as the convict has exhausted all remedies available before the appellate courts as well as the president.

Mirza was sentenced to death in 1999 for killing former Karachi Electric Supply Company managing director Shahid Hamid in 1997.

With just four days to Mirza’s execution, the high court on Thursday sought replies from the interior and prison authorities over the possibility of reopening the case.

Mirza is currently being held in Mach Jail.

On March 19, Mirza’s hanging was postponed after a video emerged wherein he made a startling confession as well as claims.
