Lahore’s leading hospital stops Health Card services, citing fund shortages

LAHORE – A leading hospital has stopped supplying free medicines to patients using Health Cards, and now inflation weary people are forced to buy medicines from private pharmas.

Reports in local media said Shaikh Zayed Hospital shut down its health card offices due to administrative issues.  A spokesperson from State Life Insurance Company said patients now need to purchase medicines and medical supplies from private pharmacies, as the hospital is no longer providing the medical support.

As former provincial government rolled out health card program to offer free treatment, the hospital continued to bill patients, which ultimately led to the suspension of health card services.

The hospital administration cited a shortage of funds, causing a lack of medicines and delays in settling payments with contractors.

Punjab Health Company said it will no longer partner with the federal hospital, condemning the additional financial burden placed on health card holders.
