PIA eats its words after backlash on ‘5 hours earlier arrival’ announcement

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has withdrawn an announcement, asking passengers to reach at least five hours prior to their boarding time in order to catch their flight at New Islamabad Airport.

National flag-carrier on Thursday made an announcement which reads, “Valued PIA customers, in light of the traffic congestion due to strict security checks at entry points of the new Islamabad International Airport, you are kindly requested to report at least 5 hours prior to departure time for your international flights.”

The national flag carrier had made the announcement to avoid traffic congestion which it said was due to the strict security checks.

A PIA spokesman said the letter was mistakenly released; therefore, passengers are requested to follow the old timing to reach the airport.

However, Twitteratis were not happy with the announcement, leading to a myriad of sarcastic comments and funny retorts aimed at the national carrier.

The new Islamabad airport opened its doors for operations on May 3 after years of delays and setbacks.

The New Islamabad Airport has been under criticism on social media after multiple videos blew the lid off administrative mismanagement, with some claiming that they had to wait for luggage for more than 3 hours.
