Afghanistan s Ashraf Ghani to visit India on Wednesday

NEW DELHI – Afghan President Ashraf Ghani is set to arrive in New Delhi on Wednesday on a two-day official visit.

The trip will cover a wide range of matters of mutual interest and is expected to be a new beginning of strong defence ties between Afghanistan and India as the latter is likely to announce additional assistance for the war torn country.

Apart from delegation level meetings and one-to-one talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Ashraf Ghani will also interact with the Indian business community.

He will also deliver an address at a prominent think tank in New Delhi. Modi will also host a special lunch in his honour on Wednesday.

A spokesman for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, while responding to queries about Ghani’s visit, said the visit would provide both Afghanistan and India with an opportunity to continue the close and frequent consultations at the highest level.

Such top level meetings between the two countries are a sign of significant strategic relationship between Kabul and New Delhi, he added.
