LAHORE (Staff Report) – As Pakistan is marking the golden jubilee of the historic victory over India in 1965 war this September, the nation on Saturday paid heavy tribute to Major Raja Aziz Bhatti on his 50th martyrdom day with the same spirit of 1965.
Bhatti received Pakistan’s highest award Nishan-e-Haider for his remarkable services during 1965’s war when he stopped Indian forces near Lahore’s BRB Canal.
Starting from September 6 Major stood firm with his men befittingly responding to every Indian attack. He foiled at least seven major attacks of Indian forces until he became the target of a tank on September 12.
“Do not recall me. I don’t want to go back. I will shed the last drop of my blood in the defence of my dear homeland,” he replied his commanding officer who asked him to take some rest as he was fighting for five days and night continuously.
He was laid to rest near his martyrdom place in Bhatapur area of Lahore.
