Minister briefs National Assembly on new gas connections

Islamabad – Federal Minister for Petroleum Dr Musadik Malik has stated that the country’s gas production is continuously declining.

He warned that if additional connections are given, even the homes currently receiving gas may not get it.

During a Q&A session in the National Assembly, Dr Musadik Malik explained that gas reserves in the country are decreasing by 4%, and providing additional connections could result in a lack of gas supply to homes already receiving it.

He suggested that the gas shortage issue could be addressed by importing LNG (liquefied natural gas), which is available in ample quantities, but the current price is not attractive to buyers.

Dr Musadik Malik also mentioned that connections are being provided to those who are ready to install LNG connections, and emphasized that using substandard cylinders is illegal.

He assured that measures will be taken to prevent substandard cylinders from being used in homes.
