PESHAWAR (Web Desk) – At least twenty people were killed and sixty injured as a result three suicide bombers detonated themselves during Friday prayers in an Imambargah in Peshawar, police officials confirmed.
Four of the attackers wearing suicide jackets under police uniform entered the mosque in Hyatabad area and three of them blew themselves up in front of the worshipers,” the police said.
A loud blast was heard while the Friday prayer was underway, which was preceded by gun firing, according to eyewitness accounts.
Eye witness Nadeem Hussain told a TV that he was inside the mosque when he heard gunfire followed by a huge explosion shattering the windows of the mosque.
Police and law enforcing agencies (LEAs) have cordoned off the entire locality and started a counter operation.
All those got injured injured were transferred to Hayatabad Medical Complex where an emergency situation has been declared. Moreover 20 of the injured have been declared critical.
The Shia Ulema Council (SUC) and Majlis e Wahdat e Muslimeen Pakistan have announced three-day mourning and demanded of the government to take stern action the extremist outfits.
