Arshad Malik s removal raises more questions, says Shahid Khaqan Abbasi

ISLAMABAD – Former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said on Saturday that the removal of accountability court judge Arshad Malik has raised more questions on the credibility of courts in the country.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, the Senior vice president of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) expressed that they respected the judiciary and didn’t want to pin blame on anyone, however, they have just put facts before the public.

“Neither we are asking for relief, nor want to achieve political mileage,” Abbasi clarified.

The former premier said that the government had attacked justice in the country and hence to restore the faith of people in the judiciary, the superior courts should take immediate action.

“If the judge [Arshad Malik] was under pressure, why didn’t he inform the monitoring judge. His removal has vindicated the fact that there is something fishy,” Abbasi continued and added that the move has exposed the government’s role.

Responding to a query, the PML-N leader said that he was ready to present himself for any case adding that he has never pressurized anyone.

‘I will appear before courts whenever summoned,” the PML-N leader said.

The former premier refrained from commenting on the question of a meeting between former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and judge Arshad Malik.

“Either the judge or Nawaz can talk about it. I can’t say anything on it,” he observed.

Abbasi’s presser came a day after the accountability court judge Arshad Malik was removed from the post for the video scandal that surfaced a few days ago.
