Punjab govt moves Supreme Court against Lakhvi’s release

LAHORE (Web Desk) – The Punjab government on Tuesday challenged the Lahore High Court’s decision to suspend the detention of Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, who is accused of masterminding the 2008 Mumbai attacks, in the Supreme Court, submitting his release has created problems for the province.

In its plea, the Punjab government argued that the high court had suspended the detention of Lakhvi under the Maintenance of Public Order despite seeing ‘sensitive documents’ against him.

“Besides, there are chances that the investigation into Mumbai attacks case may also be affected because of the release of Lakhvi,” it argued.

It requested the apex court to suspend the order of the LHC and restore the detention of Lakhvi under the security act. The apex court will fix the date for hearing.
