A devastating fire engulfed more than 80 houses in the Niyat Maducas area of Chilas, Gilgit-Baltistan, on Saturday, leaving hundreds of residents homeless.
The blaze spread rapidly, with locals making desperate attempts to extinguish the flames. Due to the area’s lack of a proper communication system and accessible roads, outside help was delayed, forcing residents to battle the fire on their own. The victims remain stranded under the open sky, awaiting assistance.
Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Gulbar Khan has taken immediate notice of the incident, ordering a thorough investigation. He instructed the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Diamer to compile a comprehensive report and ensure that aid reaches those affected as soon as possible.
Authorities have been directed to provide urgent relief, including food, shelter, and medical assistance to the displaced families.
