KARACHI (Staff Report) – The Sindh Assembly has approved the resolution regarding extension in the Rangers’ stay in Karachi, reducing the discretionary power of the paramilitary force.
According to the resolution adopted on Wednesday, the Rangers will have to get permission from the chief secretary Sindh for carrying out an action.
The Rangers will also not be able to raid any department under the Sindh government, the hurriedly-approved resolution says.
Moreover, Rangers will not be able to arrest a person on suspicion without consent of the Sindh government.
The Rangers will have to get permission from the Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah for action against any facilitator of terrorists.
The opposition in Sindh Assembly protested against limiting the powers of the Rangers and ripped the copies of the resolution.
Later, opposition members also staged a walkout.
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) also rejected the resolution.
The resolution granted the Rangers powers for next 12 months.
