BEIJING (Web Desk) – Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif reached Beijing on Monday for a two-day official visit, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported.
The COAS was given the guard of honor upon arrival. He also felicitated his Chinese counterpart on assumption of command at the army headquarters.
During the meeting issues of bilateral interest came under discussion including military to military cooperation, training exchange, intelligence sharing and most importantly the security of CPEC, ISPR confirmed.
According to the ISPR, the army chief is expected to hold meetings with senior civil-military leadership of China on the last day of his visit.
The Army chief’s visit is pivotal to Pak-China relations as both the countries are set to embark on implementing the $46 billion China Pakistan Economic Corridor project.
Earlier, the COAS had accused India of trying to weaken the CPEC project while addressing a conference in Gwadar last month.
“In this context, I must highlight that India, our immediate neighbor, has openly challenged this development initiative,” Sharif said.
It is to be mentioned that Pakistan arrested RAW agent in Balochistan in March who confessed to be working on orders of the Indian government to sabotage the CPEC project and cause unrest in various parts of Pakistan, including Balochistan.
