Condemned convicts hanged in Lahore, Haripur jails

LAHORE (Online) – Two prisoners on death row were hanged separately in Lahore and Haripur district jails on Wednesday.

Allah Ditta, who was convicted for killing a man in Deebal Pur 12 years ago, was executed in the wee hours Wednesday, Kot Lakhpat jail authorities said.

Shabbir, who had been convicted for killing a man in Rawalpindi in 1985, was executed in the Haripur district jail. His body was handed over to his family following completion of legal formalities.

Meanwhile, execution of another death convict, Abbas, was halted in Sahiwal Jail in the wake of a ‘reconciliation’ reached between the feuding parties.

Abbas was convicted for murdering his relative Ashraf in 2001 over a matrimonial dispute.

Last week, four death-row convicts were executed in Lahore, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur and Vehari.

Tanzeel, who was convicted in a murder case in 2005, was hanged in Kot Lakhpat Jail Lahore. Khalid, who was convicted for murdering a man in 1999 over a petty issue, was executed in Central Prison Faisalabad last Thursday.

Abdul Shakoor, who was convicted for killing his cousin in 2001, was sent to gallows in Central Prison Bahawalpur. Muhammad Asif, who was convicted for killing his neighbour in 1998, was hanged in district jail Vehari.
