Panama leaks: PM Nawaz may be disqualified for life by LHC for false statement

LAHORE (Web Desk)- The Lahore High Court has sought a reply from the Election Commission of Pakistan on an application filed for lifelong disqualification from elections of Prime Minster Nawaz Sharif.

According to media reports, the Lahore High Court, after hearing arguments from both sides, asked the ECP to reply within 10 days.

The petitioner stated that after Panama leaks, accusations  of money laundering on the Prime minister had been validated, therefore disqualifying him from holding political office for giving a false statement on the matter.

The lifetime disqualification of the Prime Minister has been sought under Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution, which list the criteria for parliamentary membership. In the petition, the Prime Minister was accused of no longer remaining honest and righteous after giving a false statement in relation to allegations of money laundering and tax evasion leveled at him after the publication of the Panama Papers.

Justice Shahid Waheed was hearing the case.
