LAHORE – The district government on Friday granted the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) permission to hold a rally in Lahore’s Kahna area.
The PTI had initially sought permission to hold rally at Minar-e-Pakistan.
District officials evaluated the potential venues based on a police report, after which the deputy commissioner issued an NOC for the rally.
Earlier, reports suggested that permission had been given for a rally at Jallo Park.
The district administration has allowed the rally under 43 conditions, and the Deputy Commissioner has issued the notification.
According to the notification, PTI’s rally will take place on September 21 from 3 PM to 6 PM. Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur will need to apologize for his harsh language at the September 8 rally, and the security for the rally will be the responsibility of the organizers.
Meanwhile, PTI leader Ishtiaq A Khan, speaking to the media, said they cannot take responsibility for Ali Amin; whether he apologizes is his decision, and he will speak as he sees fit.
In a separate development, Deputy Commissioner met opposition leader Ahmad Khan Bhachar. The opposition leader suggested ending the rally by 11PM.
It’s worth noting that PTI had originally announced plans for a rally at Minar-e-Pakistan.
Earlier, the Lahore High Court (LHC) ordered the deputy commissioner to decide on the PTI rally by 5pm today.
The directive was issued during a hearing on a petition filed by PTI leaders Aliya Hamza and Sheikh Imtiaz Mehmood, seeking permission for a rally at Minar-e-Pakistan.
The case was heard by Justice Muhammad Tariq Nadeem and Justice Farooq Haider.
