Heroin worth Rs 200 million seized from London-bound PIA flight

ISLAMABAD -At least 20 kilograms of heroin worth approximately Rs. 200 million was seized from a Pakistan International Airlines flight at Islamabad airport on Monday.

According to media reports, the staggering amount of heroin was seized from PIA flight PK-785 which was bout to take off from Islamabad to London.

The Airport Security Force (ASF) along with the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) carried out anintensive search operation and detained at least five people belonging to the national carrier’s catering staff for further probe.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, PIA spokesperson Mashhood Tajwar said, “The flight has now been cleared and is ready for takeoff.”

This is not the first time, heroin has been seized from a PIA craft.

The UK authorities claimed on Tuesday to have seized a large amount of heroin from Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight PK-785.

“National Crime Agency officers are investigating following the seizure of a large quantity of heroin found by Border Force officers onboard a flight from Pakistan at Heathrow on Monday, May 15. No arrests have been made, enquiries are ongoing,” an NCA spokesman confirmed on Tuesday.

On January 4, Airport Security Force (ASF) foiled a passenger’s attempt to smuggle heroin on a Saudi Arabia-bound airplane at Islamabad airport.

In December last year Pakistan Customs  claimed to have recovered 17 kg of heroin worth Rs170 million from a PIA aircraft which was ready to take off for Saudi Arabia.
