KARACHI (Staff Report) – Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar said on Wednesday that the government had decided to file a legal reference with the British government against Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain over his anti-Pakistan remarks.
While talking to media personnel at the Governor House after a meeting with Governor Sindh Ishratul Ebad, Nisar said, “We will be lodging the complaint over incitement to violence and anti-state sloganeering by Altaf Hussain.”
He said that Karachi cannot be held hostage over one person’s phone call. “We all are on the same page regarding Karachi’s law and order,” the interior minister stated.
The federal interior minister said the security of the media houses should be improved. He was referring to the recent unrest in the city in which MQM protesters tried to wreak havoc in Karachi following an inflammatory speech by the MQM chief inciting party workers to attack media houses.
Altaf gave a telephone address to his supporters in which he castigated the media for not giving due coverage of his workers and allegedly raised anti-Pakistan slogans.
As the speech triggered countrywide uproar and widespread condemnation, his senior aides ‘completely disowned’ his remarks and disavowed the London-based decision-making body of the party.
Nisar said all stakeholders and political parties were on the same page against the MQM supremo’s derogatory speech, in which he spoke against the Pakistani state, inciting his workers to create law and order problem in Karachi.
