NEW DELHI (Web Desk) – The Board of Control for Cricket in India, in a bid to make even greater amounts of money, is planning to launch a mini Indian Premier League, after the astounding success of its flagship T20 cricket league, the IPL.
Cricinfo reported that BCCI had decided on this in a meeting at Dharamshala.
In this regard, the BCCI President Anurag Thakur has said that it could be named the overseas IPL.
The tournament, which is likely to be held in September every year, will be played over two weeks. “We are trying to finalise everything but looks difficult, have to decide in which country the tournament will be played,” Thakur said.
Sony TV holds the rights to the IPL till 2017. Star Network has also emerged as a strong candidate to win the bid for the mini-IPL.
“We are considering United States (US) or United Arab Emirates (UAE) as the destination for this tournament,” added Thakur.
