ISLAMABAD – The joint investigation team (JIT), which was tasked with probing Panama case, has reportedly sent questionnaires to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his sons Hussain and Hassan Nawaz, Dawn news quoted sources privy to the investigation.
The investigation team had also asked the prime minister and his sons to record their statements in the case.
The JIT, headed by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Additional Director General Wajid Zia, comprises Amer Aziz of the State Bank of Pakistan, Security Exchange Commission of Pakistan’s Executive Director Communication Bilal Rasool, Irfan Naeem Mangi of NAB, Brigadier Nauman Saeed of the Inter Services Intelligence and Brigadier Kamran Khurshid from the Military Intelligence, wants the PM and his sons to submit a reply before recording the statement.
Earlier, Hussain Nawaz, the prime minister’s elder son, is said to have expressed apprehensions over the presence of two officers, who in his opinion may affect the fairness and impartiality of the JIT and its outcome.
Hussain, who’s name echoed throughout the courtroom during the Panama case proceedings, in a fresh application before the Supreme Court, requested that for the sake of propriety, the two officers should recuse themselves from the JIT for fair investigations into the allegations against the Sharif family.
On May 22, an implementing bench of the Supreme Court while hearing the case directed the JIT to complete probe within given time frame.
The same day, the JIT submitted its initial probe report to the bench which expressed satisfaction over the working.
