Nawaz Sharif awaits NAB s nod to meet Shehbaz Sharif

ISLAMABAD – Former premier Nawaz Sharif has sought the permission of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to meet his younger brother Shehbaz Sharif.

The supreme leader of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz has forwarded an application to the accountability watchdog in this regard against which a response is awaited.

Shehbaz Sharif, the former chief minister Punjab, was arrested by the anti-graft body on October 5 as he appeared before the bureau in the Saaf Paani company case; the younger Sharif was arrested in the Ashiana-i-Iqbal case.

Earlier in the day, the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly underwent medical examination at a private hospital in Islamabad.

The examination followed the recommendation of a four-member medical board which said Shehbaz’s CT scan be conducted on an immediate basis after his blood report indicated signs of cancer re-emergence.

According to well-placed sources, the board had also suggested the formation of a larger board comprising cancer experts for a thorough check-up of the lawmaker.

Shehbaz Sharif was flown to Islamabad on Friday to attend the National Assembly session after the National Assembly Speaker, Asad Qaiser issued his production order.

The PML-N president had earlier battled cancer and during an appearance before an accountability court in Lahore, the politician complained that he has blood cancer but was not being permitted medical check-up by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials.

Shehbaz has been in NAB’s custody since October 5 in connection to the Ashiana Iqbal Housing Scheme case in which Rs 14 billion were allegedly embezzled.

He would be presented before the accountability court in Lahore again during the next week.

The arrest of former Punjab chief minister followed shocking revelations by the ex-principal secretary to PM, Fawad Hasan Fawad.
