ESPOO – HMD Global, the home of Nokia phones has acquired the PureView brand from US tech giant Microsoft to reunited with the branding used on previous Nokia smartphone.
PureView was previously used Nokia 808, a Symbian powered phone which features a 41MP back camera and Windows Phone-powered Nokia Lumia 1020 sporting a PureView camera carrying a 41MP sensor, and a 1.2MP selfie snapper in front. Both models also featured a Xenon flash and Zeiss lenses.
Microsoft had received the trademark when it purchased Nokia’s Devices and Services unit for more than $7 billion back in 2013.
According to a listing on the European Intelectual Property Office (EUIPO), HMD Global now owns the rights to use PureView.
If the company plans to launch a PureView smartphone, it might come in a circular setup, as some early schematics suggested back in the beginning of 2018.
