BAGHDAD (News Desk) – Iraqi foreign ministry on Sunday formally requested Saudi Arabia to replace its ambassador in Baghdad, the state-run TV reported.
Thamer al-Sabhan is the first Saudi ambassador who was appointed in Iraq in December last year when the Kindgon reopened its embassy in Riyadh.
The request to replace Sabhan came after his statement which highlighted Iranian intervention in Iraq. He also held Iranian sponsorship responsible for the rising sectarian strife in Iraq.
Last weeks, several media reports also mentioned an alleged plot to kill the Saudi ambassador, however, Baghdad categorically refuted the claims.
