WASHINGTON (Web Desk) – Michelle Obama visited the Pakistan Embassy in Washington on Friday, marking the first time a First Lady of the United States was welcomed by a Pakistani mission.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US Jalil Abbas Jilani shared pictures of Obama’s Friday visit on Twitter.

Although the reason behind Michelle Obama’s visit is not clear, the US First Lady had last year announced a $70 million contribution to educate adolescent girls in Pakistan as part of her “Let Girls Learn” initiative.
Obama’s visit seemingly intends to patch strained relations between Washington and Islamabad in the aftermath of a US drone strike deep inside Pakistan on May 21 that killed Afghan Taliban chief Mullah Akhtar Mansour.
While US President Barack Obama insisted that the US will continue to carry out similar strikes wherever necessary, Pakistan termed the attack a severe violation of its sovereignty and integrity. Islamabad has also warned the Obama administration of the attack’s implications on mutual ties.
However, despite recent developments, the US state department has said that ties between Washington and Pakistan are vital and that the US has no intention of them taking a nosedive.
