Pakistani truck driver held for running over Indian labourer; trade suspended

LAHORE (Staff Report) – A Pakistani truck driver has been arrested in India after running over an Indian labourer near Atari border.

The Customs officials said early on Wednesday morning that the driver was transporting a truck, loaded with gypsum stone, to India. During the unloading process, an Indian labourer was crushed under the truck and died on the spot resultantly.

The sources informed that Atari Police has arrested the driver, Muhammad Ali, and lodged FIR No 59/2015 against him.

Meanwhile, Atari Labour Union observed strike today and trade remained suspended between the two sides of the border.

Source said that Collector Customs Lahore Preventive Mukarram Jah Ansari has informed Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) about the incident.

The sources also informed that the Pakistan High Commission will provide assistance to the driver.
