Iran s envoy calls on CJCSC General Zubair Mahmood Hayat

RAWALPINDI – Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Mehdi Honardoost met Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, General Zubair Mahmood Hayat on Saturday.

The meeting was held at the Joint Staff Headquarters in Rawalpindi and both the officials discussed matters of mutual interest.

According to a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General, Major General Asif Ghafoor the two sides highlighted the significance of Tehran-Islamabad ties in the cordial meeting.

He added that the two neighbors could contribute to the promotion of security in the region.

Pak’s envoy meets governor of Sistan

Pakistani Ambassador to Tehran, Riffat Masood also met the governor of Sistan and Baluchestan in Zahedan.

Masood said that people on both sides of Iran-Pakistan border have many commonalities which should be exploited to expand economic relations.

‘Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan is keen to widen relations with Iran, Afghanistan and India. Also, the prime minister of Pakistan has always emphasized that any economic problem with Iran should be resolved,’ she added.

Masood underlined that the borders of the Rimdan and Pishin should be launched as soon as possible to boost trade and border trade on both sides of Iran-Pakistan border.

The diplomat emphasized that commercial exchanges between Iran and Pakistan should not be made only through the land, but flights between Quetta-Zahedan-Karachi should be increased to allow for the desired outcome.

Referring to sanctions on Iran, Pakistani Ambassador said some of Pakistan’s banks are afraid of exchanges, so they should seek to remove the dollar and replace another currency.

Referring to the security of the borders between Iran and Pakistan, she said, ‘There must be common tasks on the borders to ensure security.’

Masood emphasized that Iran-Pakistan relations are in their best position since the victory of the Islamic Revolution (1979) and the opportunity should be used to expand economic, commercial and cultural cooperation.
