Google has irked people by refusing to take down app that tracks women

LAHORE – Saudi app Absher can be used by men to track women and prevent them from travelling.

The office of Jackie Speier confirmed to the BBC that a verbal conversation took place with Google after she co-wrote a letter of complaint about the app.

At the conclusion of Google’s investigation into the app, the company told the office of Congresswoman Jackie, that the investigation concluded the app doesn’t violate any agreements. Apple’s investigation continues.

“The responses received so far from Apple and Google are unsatisfactory,” Speier said in an emailed statement on Monday. “To say I’m disappointed in their failure to show a sustained commitment to human rights is an understatement. I will be following up on this issue with my colleagues.”

In this day and age, if an app of this nature can survive for so long then this is surely an issue that should not be put on the side for later. Women being tracked is almost like women being attacked. Google should be more responsible for setting an example with a justified step of removing the app from Play Store.
