Gully Girls: Female rapper from Lyari does it better than Ranveer Singh

This year’s Aurat March was perceived in numerous ways as it met with a lot of backlash and social media is still rife with keyboard discussions and fights about the matter.

Looking at the brighter side of the acclaimed event, one of the best things to come out of Aurat March 2019 was a teenage rapper named Eva B.

We’ve all heard of Gully Boy’s hit song ”Aapna Time aayega” that has taken the world by storm, but have you heard the Pakistani female version of the song, known as Gully Girls?

Gully Girls is a rap song by Eva B, a female rapper from Lyari. Journalist, Fifi Haroon, shared a video on Twitter of Eva’s song being played for the audiences at Aurat March. “Our little Secret Superstar! Eva B: a feisty teenager from Lyari, Karachi,” she wrote along with the clip.

Haroon then went on to reveal some of Eva’s story, saying that the artist’s brother does not let her come out and sing so she uses another name to do so. Yet, the talented youngster is making her presence felt all over. Eva B’s song Gully Girls was released by Patari a few days ago and she was interviewed by Haroon for BBC Urdu as well!

Eva’s Gully Girl has got us all hooked and why not? The song has been shot in collaboration with designer Zari Faisal, featuring lyrics on women empowerment. Eva has poured her heart out, talking about the enormity faced by those who are oppressed and the determination to break through the limitations that hold women back.

Some of the lines from the rap; ”jab zindagi apni hai, tou dusron ke marzi kion” [If life’s your own why should others have a say in it] and ”himmat khabhi nai harni, per phir bhi tham si jaati mein” [Never lose hope, but I back off and stop].
