ISLAMABAD – Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi met US Special Representative for Afghanistan reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad in Islamabad on Thursday.
During the meeting, Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Zalmay Khalilzad discussed the progress on the ongoing Afghan peace process besides regional security.
According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office, the US envoy and FM Qureshi discussed the progress in the backdrop of the meeting held in Doha, which was the seventh round of talks between the Taliban and US.
Khalilzad spoke about his recent visit to Afghanistan’s capital, Kabul. Pakistan’s foreign minister affirmed that Pakistan will continue its role as mediator in the peace process.

The meeting comes days after Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan met US President Donald Trump at the White House and reiterated to support the efforts being carried out for Afghan Peace Process.
After PM Khan’s US tour, the Taliban had confirmed that they would visit Pakistan after a formal invitation.
