Income of Pakistan Railways increased by 70

ISALAMABAD (Web Desk) – The Senate was informed on Tuesday that income of Pakistan Railways has been increased from eighteen billion to thirty two billion rupees during last two years.

Replying questions on behalf of Railways Minister in the House, Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid said income of Railways has been increased by seventy percent besides manifold increase in its passenger traffic.

Replying to a supplementary question the Information Minister said sixteen Railway Stations are being upgraded.

To another question he said improvement of Railway network is included in the early harvest programme under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

He said the government is simultaneously developing all means of communication in the country.

To a question Pervaiz Rashid said the present government is fully cognizant of the need to revamp national media platforms.

Minister of State for Interior Balighur Rehman informed the House that the number of foreigners, other than diplomats, presently residing in Pakistan is about four hundred and ninety two thousand. They arrived in the country in 2007.

He said a robust mechanism is in place for transparency in execution and implementation of National Action Plan.

Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif has offered to probe the issues of Nandipur power project and LNG by a newly proposed ethics committee or any other special committee of the Senate.

He was responding to points raised by leader of the opposition in the Senate Aitzaz Ahsan during discussion on a motion presented by Chairman Standing Committee on Law Javed Abbasi.

The Minister said the government has nothing to hide and public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly has already asked the Auditor General to carry out audit of Nandipur project.

Those who spoke on the occasion included leader of the opposition Aitzaz Ahsan, Farhatullah Babar, Mushahid Hussain Syed, Usman Kakar, Mohsin Aziz, Mir Hasil Bazinjo, Rahman Malik and Mushahidullah Khan.

The Senate also adopted a motion moved by leader of the House Raja Muhammad Zafar ul Haq and leader of the opposition Aitzaz Ahsan regarding formation of a special committee of the House on Ethics.

The Senate passed two bills today. These are The Companies (Amendment) Bill, 2015 and The Stock Exchanges (Corporatization, Demutualization and Integration (Amendment) Bill, 2015.

These were moved by Federal Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on behalf of Minister for Finance.
