3G, 4G services in Pakistan not up to global standard: PTA

ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has said that 3G and 4G services being provided by cellular companies in Pakistan are not up to global standard, adding that service provider companies are showing their commitment towards improvement.

In the first ever Quality of Service (QoS) survey results for 2G, 3G and 4G services, since auction of 3G and $G spectrum last year, Mobilink remained the best 3G service provider with an average download speeds of 4.04 Mbps and average upload speeds of 3.17 Mbps.

Zong, the China Mobile Pakistan, was listed second with average download speed of 3.66 Mbps and average upload speed of 2.93 Mbps in different parts of Pakistan. Telenor registered itself at number three with average download speeds of 2.22 Mbps and average upload speeds of 1 Mbps.

The government owned Ufone remained the worst 3G service provider in Pakistan with average download speeds of 1.27 Mbps and average upload speeds of 1 Mbps.

China Mobile Pakistan, Zong remained second with average download speed of 3.66 Mbps and average upload speed of 2.93 Mbps across various cities of the country. Moreover, Telenorregistered average download speeds of 2.22 Mbps and average upload speeds of 1 Mbps while Ufone’s average download speed stood at 1.27 Mbps and average upload speeds of 1 Mbps. The results further revealed that clearly 10Mhz blocks of 3G spectrum helped Zong and Mobilinkto offer better 3G speeds to consumers.

The survey further revealed that 4G service of Zong has  9.4 Mbps average download speed and 6.1 Mbps of average download speeds while other 4G service provider Warid has 5.95 Mbps of average download speeds and 2.9 Mbps of average upload speeds for its 4G LTE services.
