Senate pays homage to Maryam Mukhtiar

ISLAMABAD (Online) – The Senate’s Defence Committee has passed a resolution to pay homage to female pilot Maryam Mukhtiar who died in a plane crash.

The committee, under the chairmanship of Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, unanimously passed a resolution on Friday proposing a Gallantry Award for Flight Lieutenant Maryam Mukhtiar, who is the first female pilot in the Muslim world to embrace martyrdom in the line of duty.

The resolution termed Flt Lt Maryam Mukhtiar, who embraced martyrdom on November 24 as a “role model for youth and women of Pakistan”.

The Committee was also briefed on the security situation both on the Eastern and Western borders.

The meeting was attended by Senator Lt. Gen. (R) Salahuddin Tirmizi, Senator Lt. Gen. (R) Abdul Qayyum, Senator Javed Abbasi, Senator Maulana Attaur Rehman, Senator Farhatullah Babar, Senator Brig. (R) John Kennith Williams and Senator Ilyas Bilour, as well Secretary of the Committee, Dr Pervez Abbas, and Staff Director, Riaz Khan.
