WASHINGTON (News Desk) – Just few months after revelation that former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton used her personal email account for classified officials communication, the incumbent Defence Scretary Ashton Carter has also conceded that he used a personal email account from his iPhone to send “administrative messages”.
In an interview with CBS, Carter however insisted that none of the communication was based on sensitive or classified content. He further said the communication that he made using personal email was immediately backed up for departmental record and to avoid any controversy in future.
Carter went on to say that he failed to maintain high level cyber security in this case, while adding that strict security should be considered while communicating as an important official.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Pentagon officials also confirmed that Ashton Carter violated the communication protocol of Defence Department at least till May this year, in response to query after a NY Times report disclosed usage of personal email account for official communication.
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had faced hearings at Senate Committee in connection with her usage of personal email to exchange classified contents.
State Department also publicly published several sections of her emails sent from personal account on the orders of US Supreme Court.
