ISLAMABAD (Web Desk/APP) – Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan, Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan, has said that Senate elections were held in ‘peaceful’ atmosphere.
He said this while talking to Pakistan Television channel on late Saturday.
Sardar Raza Khan said that horse-trading in Senate election could not be ended through verbal claims, pledges and vows and urged the political parties being the stakeholders must cooperate with the commission to ensure transparency in electoral process of the country.
“Except Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), the process of election in three provinces including Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan, was found smooth, and without any problem,”
He said ECP would take action against the elements found involved in the horse-trading.
Raza Khan said that the matter of rumpus in the KPK assembly should be investigated.
To a question regarding local bodies (LB), elections, he said that LB polling for KPK areas would be held in April or May this year adding that dates for Punjab and Sindh had also been announced for LB elections.
He said that printing of some 500 million ballot papers would be required for the process of LB.
To another question, he said that delimitation process was imperative for smooth LB elections.
Replying to a question, Chief Election Commissioner said that the discussions were made with PTI chief Imran Khan on the matter of bio-metric system, role of election tribunals, and voting rights for overseas Pakistanis.
Commissioner ECP said that any advance technology should be adopted for making the process of election more free and fair. He, however, said that electronic voting or bio-metric system would take time to implement in Pakistan for achieving better results.
