Rupee strengthens in interbank, loses ground against dollar in open market

KARACHI – Pakistani rupee continued to gain momentum against the US dollar in the interbank market on Wednesday. 

Data shared by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) showed the local currency strengthened by Rs1.02 against the green back to close at Rs293.88 as compared to Tuesday’s Rs294.90.  

However, the situation in the open market was differed as the rupee shed Rs1 against the dollar where it closed at Rs297 after it opened at Rs296. 

On Tuesday, the rupee strengthened against the US dollar for the tenth consecutive session and settled at 294.90.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) opened on a positive note but it registered minor decline at the time of closing. 

The KSE-100 index dropped by 20.89 points to settle at 45,889.57 points.
