KARACHI (APP) – Sixty couples tied their nuptial knots Sunday evening in an impressive mass wedding ceremony jointly organized by Pakistan Hindu Council with the support of Pakistan Bait ul Maal.
The event, held at the spacious Young Men Christian Association (YMCA) Ground was to facilitate the intending couples with scanty resources to solemnize the ritual.
The Mass Wedding Ceremony has turned to be an annual affair, for last eight years, with couples from Karachi as well as other parts of the province provided with an opportunity to celebrate the occasion in a befitting manner. The guests to grace the occasion this evening included Chairman, Evacuee Property Board, Siddiq ul Farooq, Managing Director, Pakistan Bait ul Maal, Barrister Abid Waheed Shaikh, Punjab Minister for Minority Affairs, Tahir Khalil Sindhu, President, Pakistan Hindu Council, Chayla Ram Kaylani and hundreds of citizens including relatives of the concerned couples.
The Punjab Minister for Minority Affairs attended the ceremony on directives of the Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and felicitated the couples.
While appreciating the spirit behind collective ceremony, he on behalf of the Chief Minister of Punjab presented a cheque of Rs. 1 million to the chief coordinator of Hindu Council, Dr. Ramesh Kumar.
He said Pakistan Muslim League government was committed to support the minority communities at every level and was equally keen to protect their respective rights.
Dr. Ramesh Kumar on the occasion said all those married Sunday belonged to Sindh, mainly from Thar area and that each of the bride was presented with a dowry gift worth Rs.75,000.
He said transportation of the couples and their relatives, mainly parents, from their hometown to venue of the ceremony was also arranged by the Pakistan Hindu Council.
